Who We Are
The Carnival Experience is a cultural tourism experience dedicated to the universe of Rio de Janeiro's Samba Schools. For over ten years, we have been offering guided tours of the samba school barracks, allowing visitors to get a closer look behind the scenes of Carnival and all the work carried out during the preparation for the parades
.The narrative of the Carnival Experience is conducted by the NGO Pimpolhos da Grande Rio, in partnership with its parent school, Grêmio Recreativo Escola de Samba Academics do Grande Rio.
Based on this connection, the Carnival Experience provides an immersive experience in the cultural and recreational universe of Carnival, bringing the general public closer behind the scenes of the Samba Schools.
When opening the doors of its barracks and spaces, we reveal knowledge, routines, characters and creative processes, providing direct and authentic contact with the Rio de Janeiro Carnival.
The Inside Experience
During the visit, participants learn about the process of creating Carnival, the professionals involved, the allegorical cars, costumes and other elements that are part of the preparation of schools. In addition, the experience includes activities that bring the visitor closer to samba culture, such as wearing Carnival costumes, participating in a samba class, and trying a caipirinha
.Our proposal is to show Carnival in an authentic and accessible way, providing an experience that combines culture, history, backstage and fun, bringing visitors closer to the reality of Samba Schools and the work behind one of the greatest shows in the world.
Social Commitment
Pimpolhos da Grande Rio is a children's samba school and organization whose mission is to promote social inclusion through education and culture. The Carnival Experience is part of the institution's socio-economic sustainability pillar, contributing directly to the maintenance and expansion of its sociocultural projects
.Over 50% of the NGO's revenue comes from the program, allowing continuous investment in the training of children, adolescents and their families. The initiatives developed train professionals in various areas related to Carnival and the creative economy, such as sewing, props, design, crafts, cultural production, tourism
and language training.Impact and Sustainability
Currently, between 250 and 300 families benefit from the projects, reinforcing their commitment to social development, the generation of opportunities, and the preservation of the Rio Carnival culture.
This impact reflects the project's commitment to sustainability, by integrating these families into the Carnival creative chain, promoting training and income generation within the universe of samba schools. This cycle extends to the production process, with the use of alternative materials, reuse and recycling in the creation of sets, costumes and props, reducing environmental impacts and
making production more conscious.
